An ectopic (tubal) pregnancy occurs if a fertilized egg is implanted outside the uterus wall. 1 in every 50 pregnancies is an ectopic pregnancy. In most circumstances, the egg is fertilized inside the fallopian tube and makes its way to the uterus to be attached, and become a baby. Several reasons why an ectopic pregnancy occurs exist now. This type of pregnancy most often results when the fallopian tubes are partially blocked.

In uncommon cases, a fertilized egg will make its way all the way through the uterus and attach itself to the cervix or the inside of the abdominal wall. Some woman may have an tubal pregnancy and a normal pregnancy at the same time. As long as the egg does not attach in the uterus, an ectopic pregnancy is considered to occur.

The realistic truth is that the end result of any ectopic pregnancy is termination of the pregnancy. Permanent damage to the fallopian tube can result where a pregnancy of this kind is not terminated early enough. When a pregnancy is in the early phase, it can be terminated using the drug methotrexate. However, if the pregnancy is further along, an operation is needed to repair damage and terminate.

A tubal ligation significantly heightens the chances of having an ectopic pregnancy where the woman is still able to become pregnant. The other causes for this pregnancy are taking fertility treatments, having had surgery on the fallopian tubes in the past, abdominal surgeries, removal of ovarian cysts, and use of an IUD as a contraceptive .

Surprisingly, women that have a tubal pregnancy are 80%-90% likely to experience a standard pregnancy in the future. Doctors often to monitor subsequent pregnancies very closely following an ectopic pregnancy.

A tubal pregnancy may often show up at between six to seven weeks of pregnancy. This is generally the time when signs of pregnancy are noticeable. Home pregnancy tests, in some circumstances, may not actually show a positive result when a tubal pregnancy occurs. Unfortunately, this results in women usually becoming aware of an tubal pregnancy when complications happen.

Pain in the abdomen, combined with general tenderness are usually the first signs of trouble. The pain is normally specific to one side of the body. Bleeding in the vaginal section and pain when going to the bathroom or coughing are other common symptoms. If the pain progresses to include pain in the shoulder, this may be a sign that the tube has broken.

The only chance of saving women with an ectopic pregnancy is for termination of the pregnancy to happen. A high percentage of people feel that abortion is wrong. There are only a small amount of choices in these circumstances. Let the mother live or lose both the child and mother. It may be helpful to talk about the pregnancy and your emotions with a senior member of the church or therapist to understand the reasons for termination.
